50,000 and counting… THE PEOPLE'S INITIATIVE

VoteYesForLife supporters met in Sioux Falls this afternoon to celebrate the successful petition drive which ends April 1. The Ivy Room was standing room only for the "count up" which stopped at "50,000 and counting." 16,776 was the number needed to put the measure on the ballot. 150 last minute signatures came in to Church at the Gate in our services last night and this morning and that number isn't figured in yet. In fact, all across the state petitions are still coming in.

Without repeating my earlier post, this petition drive - unlike UnHealthy Families petition drive in 06 - was done in frigid weather conditions, with volunteer South Dakota pro-life people. Unhealthy Families had the benefit of warm summer months and they paid out of state professionals to collect signatures. And, nearly half of those collected were invalid. 

In 2006, the PEOPLE of South Dakota made it clear they wanted an abortion bill that had rape and incest exceptions. This 2008 measure is therefore THE PEOPLE'S INITIATIVE. It's what they asked for and wanted in 2006.
