NEW TITLE FOR THIS POST… Todd Epp is forgiven
Pat Powers at Dakota War College thinks I'm in a "blog war" with local attorney Todd Epp. Pat, this isn't a blog war, I wish it were that benign. Real human beings are dying.
Epp apparently has no concept of how incendiary everyone is right now. Yesterday I gave what I thought was a cool-headed renouncement of the Tiller murder saying it made me sick, sad, and that it hurt our cause, was not God's plan, etc., etc. In about a thousand words I bascially said a very bad guy came to a very bad end – nothing to celebrate. I expressly said "every life is valuable, including Tillers."
Epp didn't see the word "renounce" anywhere in my renouncement so he interpreted it as a non-renouncement. Others read it and thought I was sending mixed messages. I don't know– a mass murderer is murdered in a church. There are a million conflicting angles to this if you ask me. I articulated a few in a manner that confused the Biblically illiterate. Epp was the most confused.
One would think a lawyer like Epp would understand reckless endangerment, false representation and libel and the damages of same. Apparently not because he intentionally and maliciously misled people in a very public forum with a headline that read: Pastor Steve Hickey REJOICES in murder of Kansas Abortion Doctor . That's very damaging to me and nothing could be further from the truth.
KELO pulled two of his posts in the last 24 hours obviously agreeing Epp was way over the line. Epp, with a notable air of immaturity, immediately reposted links and changed nothing. Additionally, he made haste to drop the link on another regional blog. He toned down his post only after talking with KELO earlier today but it's too late as far as I'm concerned as it's eternally etched all over the cyberworld.
Here's where it gets worse… pro-aborts are in a feeding frinzy right now and Epp effectively painted a bullseye on me putting me and my family in harms way. While Epp was explaining himself to the KELO execs I was detailing threats I've received today to a Sioux Falls FBI agent. There is a dark underworld under Planned Parenthood and the abortion cartel and they are only enabled by President Lawlessness.
I asked him to immediately retract his libelous statements that maligned me and jeapardize my safety. Instead he writes back… "sleep well tonight my friend." Huh? That feels creepy to me - kind of seems to imply his intent WAS to increase my vulnerability. He's already indicated that was not his intent. However, no matter, it was clearly the outcome.
Todd, did I misrepresent your intent in any place here in this post? I figured my Sibby-question-style headline was enough over the top to give you a taste of your own medicine. In my two years at this blog I've quickly retracted three posts after I realized they were either untrue or unfair. I expected the same from you and was disappointed.
But now Epp wants us to move on and posts this… A Palate Cleanser… after all the abortion and Hickey hoopla, I say it's time for a change of pace! While he slips into horny mode, others of us are thinking about security. Maybe I should ask President Obortion to send US Marshalls to provide security at my church.
I'd love to move on and I'd love nothing more than for the whole Tiller thing to be tossed out in the dumpster of yesterday's news cycle. (If the crime were against a prolifer it would have been.) Tomorrow I'll be working on turning the other cheek and forgiving him.

Steve,
I'll be praying that God provides protection over you, your family, the church, pro-lifers, and all of His children standing up for His word (as long as they are doing it legally). I do not understand why people cannot accept that believers do not want bad people harmed or even killed, they want these people to turn from their sins and rejoice in the Lord. That's all we want! This is getting ridiculous having pro-aborts claim that you are rejoicing in this tragedy. God knows you're not and His opinion is the one that matters. He will provide you with more protection then a pro-abort president will. Remain strong in knowing that the Lord knows your heart and your true feelings about this tragedy. He knows you are not celebrating this tragedy, even though you are being blamed of that. Epp will be forced to accept this fact sooner or later, then he too will know your heart about this event. I have heard how Epp has made you look by posting false accusations about you, but has Epp ever stated his true heart about this killing? Is Epp insisting on harrassing you because he is afraid of backlash that will come to him if he were to focus on his feelings about this tragedy? Is Epp so hard up for material for his blog that he has to feed on others to feel accomplished? If Epp is a local attorney doesn't he have cases to focus on or does he not have any business? If Epp is such a pure, good person like he protrays by posting false rumors about others on his blog making him look so amazing, then why doesn't he focus on blogging about all the good he is doing in this world? I think Epp needs to focus more on the people he is suppose to represent as an attorney and less on making false accusations. If he still doesn't get it then maybe he should go back to elementary school and learn reading comprehension again so he can understand what you are posting. It is very clear Steve that you are not rejoicing in this tragedy, and you find it to be that, a tragedy. I think the majority of us understand what you are saying and that is why we read this blog. The others just want to create drama because that is what they live off of. It's unfortunate that they don't have more to live for, but we know you are living for the Lord and doing His will.

Here's a serious idea for how the Government should respond to this.
Congress should pass a law (call it the George Tiller Complete Training Act) to require substantial training in third-trimester abortions as a condition for OB/GYN certification everywhere in USA. That would guarantee that no matter how many doctors get murdered, these services would always remain available.
The law should also specify that religious/conscience protections for health-care workers do NOT include the right to opt out of abortions of fetuses whose lives, if they were born, would be overwhelmingly likely to be short, miserable, painful, and almost entirely post-surgical. Surgery after surgery until death. If your religion won't let you help someone avoid giving birth to a baby with no nose nor mouth nor breathing tubes of any kind, then your religion is incompatible with health-care.
THAT would make a difference.
Todd Epp @ 7:11 am
Steve:
I put a comment on my blog saying anyone who wanted to harm you was an idiot. I was clear about violence not being an answer. I want nothing bad to happen to you or your family. If someone is threatening you and your family, I hope they catch them and put them in jail. I take no joy in anyone making you and your family feel unsafe. People who do that are cretins. I could go on and on about how no one should harm you.
I don't know how much clearer I can be.
Todd Epp
Steve @ 7:29 am
Todd - I know, I saw your earlier comment stating you hope no one harms me. The statement is quite buried and hard to find and that why I included this line/link in this post:
"He's already indicated that was not his intent. However, no matter, it was clearly the outcome."
Clear? I thought I was pretty clear too in renouncing Tiller's Murder. I was far more clear that you were here. You WERE clear… feverishing working Sunday and yesterday to make sure everyone got to read the words "HICKEY REJOICES" in this killing.
It's over. Blessings on your day
SH
PS - Stephanie - thank for pray for us regarding safety.
On my safety… my family and others are far more worried about it than me. Obviously I need to be careful in what I say and use wisdom as I'm out and about. But I agree with something Bishop Harry Jackson said to a group of us pastors last week in DC… "we are bulletproof until God's assignment for our life on earth is finished." Threats don't slow me down in the slightest. I guess that's the one thing Tiller and many pro-lifers have in common.
rradical @ 8:59 am
OK, Pastor Steve, lets count bodies in the domestic terror war you support by having incendiary keywords like "Tiller the Killer" in your keyword list…. I'd love to see a list of self-proclaimed "pro-lifers" that have been assaulted for their views. On the other side, we have an entire medical community living in fear, to the point where 87% of counties in the US have no abortion provider AT ALL.
Your claims of persecutino would be funny if it weren't connected with the most successful domestic terrorism program in American history.
Stephanie @ 12:14 pm
More Reasonable….do you honestly think that there would be enough medical students going into OBGYN residency if their traning REQUIRED them to learn and perform abortions???!! Are you nuts? Working in the medical field I know many who would have walked away from OBGYN if that was a requirement. If your solution to your world problems would ever happen the medical community would then have even more of a shortage of doctors in the OBGYN specialty. Seriously…..special!
Epp, I hope some day soon you learn the harm you have truly caused. I hope your lawfirm that you are a part of looks good and hard into the false accusations you have posted online as an attorney. With an attorney like you who needs a jury, you accuse based on false accusations. That's what I would look for in an attorney.
DoctorDefense @ 5:16 am
Wow, your family is enough danger that you spoke with the FBI???
GOOD!
Steve, I sincerely hope someone kills your children, but not you, in response to the murder of Dr. Tiller. The idea of you experiencing the special feelings that parents experience when their children get murdered gives me the warm and fuzzies all over.
MoreReasonableThanDD @ 5:27 am
Stephanie, you wrote: "do you honestly think that there would be enough medical students going into OBGYN residency if their traning REQUIRED them to learn and perform abortions???!!"
Yes. OB/GYN is a very desirable specialty and every residency program gets many many times more applicants than they have positions. If the rtls go into fields more appropriate for them, there will still be far more applicants for OB/GYN than positions for them.
You wrote: "Are you nuts?"
I could not possibly say.
You wrote: "Working in the medical field I know many who would have walked away from OBGYN if that was a requirement."
Good!
You wrote: "If your solution to your world problems would ever happen the medical community would then have even more of a shortage of doctors in the OBGYN specialty."
First of all, there's no shortage of recent MDs who WANT to do OB/GYN. The shortage of OB/GYNS is because starting up after residency requires so much money. Hundreds of thousands of dollars for your first year of liability insurance. On top of your student-loan payments.
Secondly, if requiring abortion training DID trigger a shortage, the true cause of that shortage would be right-to-lifism, not the abortion training requirement. The solution is for people to stop being right-to-lifers. Send the "abortion is murder" idea to the same place as the "Voting and holding political office are contrary to Woman's essential nature" idea–the ashheap.
Nikole @ 12:32 pm
Wow! DoctorDefense @5:16 - God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ reign over any belief that you have or whoever you pray to. I plead the blood of Jesus over you and your family today, Steve. Your family is protected by teams of angels waring on your behalf.
friend @ 2:11 pm
WWJD? Clearly, DoctorDefense is one of those that Jesus spoke of when he said,"Father, forgive them, they know not what they do." As sickening as it is, we need to pray for DoctorDefense and others like him/her, that their hardened hearts be opened to the Holy Spirit.
Pastor Hickey, thanks for always being brave and bold enough to speak the Truth, never fearful of the persecution and attacks by Satan that come your way because of it. I know that you know your rewards will be found in heaven, but while we are still here, you can never hear that enough. God bless and keep you today and always.
Connie @ 3:16 pm
Pastor Hickey wrote in his blog about Dr. Tiller’s death, “He was shot and killed this morning while ushering at his Reformation Lutheran Church in Wichita. His wife was singing in the choir at the time of the shooting. Really, really, horrible and sad. Every life is valuable, including Tiller's.” In absolutely no way did he imply that he or anyone else in the pro-life movement was pleased at this tragic, tragic incident.
Whenever people band together to work for a cause, there can become fanatics that go their own way and often turn to violence. Just because one man did an unimaginable act of violence, we can not brand everyone in the pro-life movement as radical.
The majority of those involved here in our state are those who fight abortion with words, with political action and with educating the public. However, there are people like Mr. Epp and those behind “Dakota Women” that like to use their blog spots as smear campaigns to damage the character of people who just don’t agree with them. Taking bits and pieces of information and turning them every way but the truth.
Yes, we want abortion to come to an end, but never at the expense of the life of someone on the other side, even someone like Dr. Tiller.
momoffour @ 3:45 pm
Wow DoctorDefense @5:16-, and you think people like us (pro lifers) are radical. To sincerely hope Pastor Hickey's children are killed is unbelievable, not to mention hypocritical on your part.
Pastor Hickey, you are right on with all your comments. Thank you for having the integrity and guts to speak the truth.
Paige @ 8:36 am
"While Epp was explaining himself to the KELO execs I was detailing threats I've received today to a Sioux Falls FBI agent. There is a dark underworld under Planned Parenthood and the abortion cartel and they are only enabled by President Lawlessness."
A dark underworld to the Planned Parenthood cartel?
haha.
Yes… which side is going around gunning people down in churches?
You are severly confused. And as far as your renouncement goes- it is full of mixed messages and any concern for Tillers life and his family that you express seems completely forced and fake.
Perhaps if you cannot deal with hatemail and threats you should shut your mouth or at least quite making such bold statements for your anti-choice cartel. If you play with fire, you will more than likely get burned.
I sincerly hope that I never have to meet you in person.
I'd vomit.
Amy @ 12:19 pm
Geez Paige -
Are you running out of things to do since middle school let out?
Stephanie @ 10:44 pm
Paige,
You are the one who is going to need to be comfortable with being burned. What have you stood up for lately and risked your well being? You're right you would probably vomit if you ever met Steve because you would realize that your courage for God's work is no match for Steve's participation.
Paige @ 10:03 pm
Stephanie,
What is it exactly that Steve does? Blogs. Condones killing doctors that perform legal abortions to those who feel they need it? Wow. What a guy. He sounds bored and pathetic. And it is because of his blind faith farm animal ways that I would vomit. , , on him. And you Stephanie, because you want to take away the rights of woman and families and force your religion down other's throats.
.. and I do not need silly threats like hellfire and damnation to scare me into doing "good". I can think for myself, thank you, and that is why your fictional god, hell, and heaven mean nothing to me. I am not so weak minded that I constantly need something to follow and fall back on. I care for the environment, animal and human rights, I also believe strongly in the right to choose and the right to have control over your own body and life. And I also see that there is a problem with over population and poverty and child abuse. I see that our children are not being educated, especially about sex. I gladly stand up and fight for what's right and for the well being of the earth and our freedom. Typically I would say though that the things I stand up for are for my well being and for the general well being of the world, not for putting our well being at risk, Weird concept, I know. Ha.
Stephanie, I am an atheist so take your dogma and choke on it.
Sincerely,
Paige.
