Abortion as birth control up in South Dakota

The South Dakota Department of Health/Office of Data, Statistics and Vital Records just released their 2006 report on induced abortion. Overall, the number of abortions in South Dakota in 2006 was down by 7% from 2005. The number of abortions done in cases of "rape or incest" was down from 1.1% to .4% and the number of abortions because the mother "could not afford the child" was down from 25.5% to 21.4%. However, the number of abortions because "the mother did not desire to have the child" was up from 79.5% to 84.6%. That means abortion is increasingly being used as birth control in South Dakota.
