South Dakota's abortuary IS "open"
It's a bit like how Obama is taking a premature victory lap around the world right now. The pro-life community nationally has taken notice of the unusual Monday here at South Dakota's only abortuary. Unfortunately though, somehow, the story on blogs and national news reports has grown to… South Dakota is now "an abortion-free state" and it's because the doctors refused to come. Neither of these is certain.
What is true is that five, not eight, women showed up to the "clinic" Monday for appointments (two said they were there for abortion appointments) and all five found the doors locked and all five eventually left without a Planned Parenthood employee coming to the door to help them or talk to them (two PP staff cars were in the lot). What is true is these women were the last concern of Planned Parenthood. What is true is that one of these women ended up at the Alpha Center and got good information and loving care from the staff there. What is true is that another walked up to talk to a member of the Bound4Life South Dakota prayer team there on the sidewalk. Bound4Life folks are not there as protesters or to counsel people, what's true is that they are there to pray.
Some suggest Planned Parenthood merely changed "abortion day" to another day of the week to throw off those who are watching them closely. Though possible, it's not probable since again they forgot to notify these women. What is true is that the Planned Parenthood here usually does abortions on Monday but told KELO News they were " not seeing patients" on Monday. What's true is that South Dakota was abortion-free on Monday.
It's speculation as to what exactly is going on but three options are likely 1) they weren't ready to comply with the 8th Circuit Court ruling 2) their lawyers were holding up their doctors or 3) their doctors are now hestitant or refusing to come to South Dakota to do abortions. Maybe it's a combo of all three. Maybe we have seen South Dakota's last abortion and they will stay open for everything but abortion. These are maybe's and speculations and that is it.
Planned Parenthood here in Sioux Falls has been open all week and, publicly, they say they are doing abortions at the Sioux Falls "clinic." What's true is that it's virtually impossible to get accurate and true information of any sort out of Planned Parenthood. That's why the courts had to step in and make sure they stopped giving women ideologically-charged, agenda-driven, non-scientific information (blobs of tissue) and instead give women information that is biologically and medically accurate.

There's gotta be something weird going on. I listened to a tape of a National Abortion Federation meeting session about coping with informed consent laws, and the abortion workers agreed that their "most effective" approach was to tell the woman something like, "A bunch of religious zealots managed to pass a law requiring us to offer you brochures full of their religious dogma. These materials are inaccurate and misleading and full of lies, and they're intended only to shame and humiliate you. Do you want to review these materials?" The women, by and large, would of course say no.
So what was keeping PP staff from doing something similar, saying "Under duress I am required to read this piece of religious dogma to you because of a law passed by zealots who want to shame and humiliate you"? It's not like they'd balk at lying.
So there is something more up, I'd guess, than just not wanting to comply with the law.

Status of abortions in South Dakota…
I reported last week that SD's only abortion mill, Planned Parenthood of Sioux Falls, apparently did not commit abortions last Monday, the first day a new law took effect forcing abortionists to tell mothers they planned to snuff a human……
