Facing the Face of Abortion in South Dakota

As the South Dakota Senate and House move to approve SB 88, the Sonogram Bill, Kate Looby, South Dakota's Planned Parenthood Director, says, "These sonogram bills won't prevent one unintended pregnancy and they do absolutely nothing to prevent the need for abortion in South Dakota."

Even in her answer she is trying to divert our gaze away from the issue at hand. She's saying… don't look at this bill, look over here at unintended pregnancy. Why can't she face this? Abortion has a face.

Ninety percent of abortion-bound women who view a sonogram and receive information choose life.

Each week our local paper prints the pictures of the soldiers who died that week in the war in Iraq. Since we have the technology now, maybe we could print a face shot of the babies that didn't make it out of Looby's office after losing the battle for life. If people are tired and turned off seeing pictures of dismembered babies, maybe it'll help wake us up as a society if everyone - not just the mother - is given an opportunity to see the life in the face lost.

What do Kate Looby and Dick Cheney have in common? They both pull the trigger before identifying the target.

Actually, that's an idea. Just pass a law that it's okay to legally execute the fetuses. But you have to publish the 3-d ultrasound of the baby's face and publish it with the information:

Age: 8 weeks
Sex: Female
Reason for abortion: Personal

Age: 9 weeks
Sex: Male
Reason for abortion: Personal

Age: 18 weeks
Sex: Male
Reason for abortion: Personal

While a bit "out of the norm" that idea the previous writer posted, that is, listing/picturing those people aborted, maybe it would serve to get people to thinking about what is truly going on. And alert people to the fact that most abortions are done simply out of convenience or as a method of birth control. Perhaps we need to become a bit more bold in our approach and legislation, as the opposition certainly has.
Sincerely,
George D.
