Give Congress a HICKEY buttons going fast!

After breakfast with some legislators in Sioux Falls this morning I noticed a "Political Collectors Show" sign in front of a church and decided to loop back around, go in, and see if I could add a few buttons to my little collection. Luckily I had a bag of these special limited edition "Give Congress a Hickey" buttons for trading - they were a hit!  Former State Senator and Watertown attorney Lee Schoenbeck was there showing off his collection and I traded Lee even up for a couple of his old campaign buttons.

I picked up a few old South Dakota political campaign buttons that were of interest to me. Though we have almost nothing in common politically, the Abourezk buttons are special to me because Senator Abourezk was a friend of my dad's and when my dad was killed he not only attended his funeral, he advised me in the days following.  The "Return Bottum" button makes me smile because I'm sympathetic to having a humorous last name.

I didn't get this next one at the show today but I'll show it off here because it is one of my recent favorite additions. Maybe I'll have Sarah sign it when I see her next.  Since I'm on the subject of buttons I'll post a couple I picked up here in town during the recent mayoral election.  True to form my friend Kermit Staggers did some cost cutting with this plastic snap together do-it-yourself-with-a-color-printer button.

Steve,

Please save me one of the Hickey buttons, as I'm a collector myself. Sick wife at home, so I won't be making it to church today.

Thanks!
Wm.

Steve - great to meet you. I always thought the Foshiem was John from Huron and believe that I got a pin from his son.
