Hey, the sun did come up today!
But don't let that fool you. A great darkness has come over the land.
I decided to wake up early to see if the sun would come up. It did. An obvious mercy of God. This verse greeted me "Let us acknowledge the Lord, let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains..." A few verses later we read about people who reject what is good, people who "set up kings without my consent; they choose princes without my approval." Are we living in those says or what?
Consequently they "sow the wind and reap the whirlwind" and are swallowed up (meaning they lose their national identity and independence). The verse talks about the wild donkey wandering alone into the land of captivity. Donkeys are stubborn and without wisdom, as Democrats. I thought the word "wild" was important. The dictionary says it means - lacking restraint, unruly, characterized by the absense of moral restraint; dissolute or licentious. Yep that's the donkey.
There are fingers to point for the defeat of Initiated Measure 11 in South Dakota. Normally I'd advise against pointing fingers but this needs to be unpacked. If you need to vent or gloat, go ahead and use the comment box here - I'm listening. I'll even post a poll to get you thinking but don't be limited to the options I give you here. Voting for more than one is okay. Out-of-state votes are welcome, Chris Cassidy says so.
On a personal note… those of you close to me know that my brother is in route here because my mom is expected to go home to be with Jesus today or tomorrow. I got three sentences out of her in the past two days 1) "I don't know what happened" -referring to her sudden turn for the worse. 2) "Get me a ballot!" (she did get to vote). Her last sentence, was "I'll pull through." Doctors have her on comfort-only measures and we couldn't get her awake last night. My dad was killed on Nov. 4 six years ago. The timing is interesting but my mom couldn't stand to even look at Obama so that she won't have to hear his voice again is a mercy for sure. 55,543,427 Americans envy her in that regard. She had a lung transplant six years ago (a month after my dad was killed) and we've had a six year extension on her life. Our home already feels odd without her. I'm one who connects dots and looks at stuff with prophetic eyes because God speaks through stuff like this - that my mother's bones stopped making blood during this bloody battle for LIFE seems to mean something.
I will continue to fight, even as government intrusion reaches all time highs.
Kristen has been stuck in Isaiah 26 for a couple of days - "…we could not deliver the nation… Go my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until his wrath has passed by. See, the Lord is coming out of his dwelling to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose the blood shed upon her; she will conceal her slain no longer."
Things to be thankful for… Roger Hunt won. California's Proposition 8 (marriage) prevailed. Al Franken was defeated.

Psalm 10 was my random reading of the morning. Odd that it popped up today.
1 [a]Why, O LORD, do you stand far off?
Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?
2 In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak,
who are caught in the schemes he devises.
3 He boasts of the cravings of his heart;
he blesses the greedy and reviles the LORD.
4 In his pride the wicked does not seek him;
in all his thoughts there is no room for God.
5 His ways are always prosperous;
he is haughty and your laws are far from him;
he sneers at all his enemies.
6 He says to himself, "Nothing will shake me;
I'll always be happy and never have trouble."
7 His mouth is full of curses and lies and threats;
trouble and evil are under his tongue.
8 He lies in wait near the villages;
from ambush he murders the innocent,
watching in secret for his victims.
9 He lies in wait like a lion in cover;
he lies in wait to catch the helpless;
he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.
10 His victims are crushed, they collapse;
they fall under his strength.
11 He says to himself, "God has forgotten;
he covers his face and never sees."
12 Arise, LORD! Lift up your hand, O God.
Do not forget the helpless.
13 Why does the wicked man revile God?
Why does he say to himself,
"He won't call me to account"?
14 But you, O God, do see trouble and grief;
you consider it to take it in hand.
The victim commits himself to you;
you are the helper of the fatherless.
15 Break the arm of the wicked and evil man;
call him to account for his wickedness
that would not be found out.
16 The LORD is King for ever and ever;
the nations will perish from his land.
17 You hear, O LORD, the desire of the afflicted;
you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,
18 defending the fatherless and the oppressed,
in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more.

Steve,
Thank you for this word. I have been physically ill since the results last night. It is an odd thing, but this election has shaken me to the point that my body cannot adjust to the change it will face in the near future. I was finally able to sleep last night after being with Jesus. This is going to be hard, and I cannot wrap any sense around it. I just know my faith is in Christ, and He has my full belief. If it is that time, then He must prevail, and we must fall for what our nation has done. Remain strong in Christ, because that is our hope. This blog needs to keep going, and we believers need to keep hearing the word and promises of God. God is our only foundation built on the rock. We must remain strong in Him and continue to build with our strength in Him. God bless and thank you for what you have done in Christ's name. I fully agree with what you have done with this campaign, this blog, and our church. I believe you did it in Christ, and therefore our foundation has been built with Christ. He will protect us, and when it is time He will bring us home. Your mother will receive much glory when she goes home. All the angels are weeping today for America, but God will restore the faith in His followers left to battle. May God be with us all!

Steve,
I believe it is of the utmost importance to fight for those things you believe in, and so I sincerely hope you continue fighting for what you believe is right for the rest of your life.
I also believe that since we live in a democracy, where everyone has the right to vote, it is important to respect the views and belief systems of others. I'm reminded of a story my dad once told me, even though the finer details escape me–
A man walked into the home of one of his fiercely political friends and saw a poster of Hoover (or another unpopular president?) on the wall. The man asked his friend whether he actually liked the man. The friend replied, "No, but I respect him because he is the President of the United States of America."
Of course Jesus Christ is your king; I would wager that no one who reads this blog even semi-regularly would dispute that. Barack Obama, however, is your President– that was decided by an overwhelming majority last night. The two are not mutually exclusive.
You may not share all of your beliefs with Barack Obama, but surely you can recognize one or two Christian tennents in his proposed policies– making healthcare available to those who are sick, putting a little extra money into the pockets of those who need it most, or encouraging community or world service from the young people of this nation?
So Steve, please continue fighting for the rights of the unborn, but please, also, recognize that bitterness and blame will do little to help this country move forward in a new direction.
Chris @ 10:37 am
That's a good word right there….
Interesting that CA's Prop 8 was a success….
Chris @ 10:39 am
Wanted to add…I heard a prophecy that the next president of the United States would receive a baptism of the Holy Spirit while in office….
Santony Melmo @ 10:56 am
I am so glad you pro-fascism freaks failed in your little abortion ban. I wish I could have gotten the chance to see the tears in your eyes in person, such a pity. Losers.
Teresa @ 11:04 am
Amen.
Ted @ 12:20 pm
No one is saying Obama is your King, he is though, your President, saying he's not is Un-American. Bush has been my President, even though I didn't agree with him much, the last eight years. I know, you've heard fools say that Bush wasn't their President, but they were wrong too. Please, lets take McCain's words to heart, he called on all Americans to come together to bridge their differences. That sounds refreshing to me. Please think about it.
Sorry to hear about your mother, I am going through something like that with my father right now. I wish you the best in that regard. I know it is hard.
God Bless.
Stephanie @ 12:36 pm
Elizabeth,
I just recommend you read Obama's policies before you preach about them. His policies have no Christian basis. You think universal health care is a blessed thing, but wait until it happens. You will suffer before you receive treatment. Doctors will be too few, and more will exit the system. They will be over worked, under paid, and face policies that go against them. We will have no extra money in our pockets because somone has to pay for the healthcare that the other person cannot afford. You may say Obama's plan to tax those who make over $250,000 a year will cover this, but that is only 1% of the population. You will pay for this, I will pay for this, our children (if they make) will pay for this. As of right now every citizen in America (including the babies that made it) owe approximately $38,000.00 to the government, this is in additional to our yearly taxes. Healthcare expense will not be the only thing that takes money out of our pockets, there is also Obama's energy plan, immigration plan, and all of his plans. You need to educate yourself on his plans before you preach. Read his book The Audacity of Hope. This will not educate you on his plans, but his life. Believers should not believe, hope, respect, or even consider any false word or guide. We should only follow the word of God! Before you respond to this post answer me this one question, why were the only pictures shown of Obama and his grandmother of them years ago when they were both much younger?
To the others of you who must post that killing is ok, I will pray for you. I will pray that Christ will touch you in such a way that you will fall away from the evil that guides you.
Stephanie @ 12:55 pm
Ted,
The importance is not whether or not you are being American, the importance is whether or not you believer. God does not focus on if someone is being American. He focuses on whether or not someone believes. It's a commandmend that He gave us!
artgirl @ 1:08 pm
I find it interesting that Christians are refusing to honor Obama as President. I guess because I'm reading/doing the bible study "Honor's Reward" by John Bevere right now…it's a good book.
We are studying God's view of authority, and how we honor God by honoring others. There is a large chunk of the book that focuses on honoring those in authority, including those in government.
There are some especially tough to swallow sections about honoring those who are not honorable (even sometimes evil). I'm not making a statement about Obama here, but I am asking you to consider reading the book, if you are having a tough time thinking of him as President.
Steve @ 1:29 pm
I appreciate all your comments. Humble pie is always good for the soul. I took down my comment about Obama my President. Chalk it up to the variety of things I'm fighting right now. I look forward to Obama uniting the world and walking way across the center line to reach out to me. He's never even come close to the center line before so pardon me if I have trouble believing him when he says brand new words to his vocabulary like "bipartisan."
Chris @ 3:49 pm
I came into something today…the Lord told me to Speak Life.
Jen Bowman @ 7:33 pm
Santony…I pray that God would fill you with an overwhelming sense to fall to your knees in repentance…and total revelation of the FEAR of the Lord.
Teresa @ 9:03 pm
Just so it's clear, I was Amen-ing the Psalm, not Santony!
PC @ 3:28 pm
I will show respect to the new president unlike those who opposed President Bush the last 8 years.
One of two things will happen in the next 4 years:
1. Obama gets saved in office, or
2. Persecution breaks out against Jesus followers like we have never seen in the history of the USA.
If #1 doesn't happen, we better all be prepared for #2.
The silver lining - The church grows and becomes stronger in times of persecution.
Jesus is still The King no matter who's president!
AC @ 5:35 pm
People, wake up Obama is a christian. It's shocking that McCain doesn't go to huch for 20 years but gets away with calling himself a christian because he claims he's pro life.
AC @ 5:35 pm
huch + church
Bret @ 12:42 am
AC,
I don't believe people/christians were supporting McCain because he was a pillar of faith in the church but rather his voting record on things that are important to the church, mainly abortion. Unlike Obama, who's voting record, in regards to abortion, partial birth abortion, born alive botched abortions, in which I believe, as well as the church find it something equal to the holocaust or the killing of the most innocent of life.
McCain's claim that he's pro life position can be backed up by his voting record. Obama's pro abortion position can be backed up by his voting record.
abby @ 2:52 pm
Wait… I don't get it. "Pro-life?" Actually, you're just pro-life until the baby is born, right? And then once it's born you don't want your tax dollars to pay for any services to care for the baby or its mom, right? Like, oh, I don't know, public education, Head Start, Temporary Aid for Needy Families, subsidized health care, parenting support groups for mothers of babies they were not prepared to have… that sort of thing? Please acknowledge the utter hypocrisy of the term "pro-life" and call yourselves what you really are "anti-women's rights." Or at the very least, "anti-abortion choice."
Complete Faith @ 3:56 pm
Abby, where did you ever hear someone on this site say we stop caring for mother or child after the child is born?
Erin @ 10:01 pm
abby:
What in the world are you talking about? You have no idea…
did you have a bad experience with a few 'christians' who stated this?, and now you are projecting this on every christian? I think so…because this has never been the opinion by anyone on this blog.
