Interesting reactions from women to school districts apology on the "abortion hurts women" ad
One has to really think to follow the logic over at Dakota (angry, selfish and callous) Women. In one breath they callously deny abortion hurts women and celebrate the successful fuss their cronies made at the Sioux Falls School Board meeting last night with regard to the Alpha Center - "abortion hurts women" ad in the school directory. (These are people who callously advocate playing Russian Roulette with a major medical procedure affecting women and remarkably they openly don't care about the women who don't fare so well.)
Yet in the very next post they suddenly have compassion for women who might try to self-abort if abortion was illegal. We know those numbers are very, very few (but undeniably still concerning) and that the answer is not in "giving them a gun to shoot themselves in the stomach" (a vivid metaphor folks referring to legal abortion), the answer is in coming alongside and giving them real choices and tangible help that leads to life and a blessed future. The inconsistency and disingenuineness of their concern for women is blatent - to hell with women hurt by abortion, no wait, self-abortion may hurt women. This is not rational nor reasonable thinking. I saw some related irony in their earlier post today where they saw humor in a regional news story on Chic on Chic crimes. And that's funny because???
On the other end of the spectrum a mother of four posted this comment on my blog earlier today:
Well, after reading the Argus Leader this morning, it sounds as if Mr. Daby and the school district are acting like puppies with their tails between their legs. To think they would fold that quickly to a special interest group is amazing. (I know you can't always believe the Argus.) But, if the article is true, I guess now the athiests can come forward and object to the First United Methodist Church ad because it appears that the school district is endorsing only Methodists. Or all the Protestants of the district please come forward because of the ad from Catholic Family Services- I mean, come on, the public school district endorsing Catholic charities. Don't they have their own school system? Even the ad for organ donation is such a personal decision, one that not everyone believes in. I could find it offensive that my children are exposed to that subject. I hope Casey, PP and UNhealthy Families remember that is what is good for the goose is good for the gander. As a parent you can bet I will be watching very closely from now on everything that comes home in my kids backpack. I think Mr. Daby opened up a can of worms with his apology. Now we will see if the policy gets changed.
Any hopes in the future of anything related to Planned Parenthood getting into our school system just got dashed. The school district will undoubtedly distance themselves altogether from anything related to these issues and as this mom of four says, many people will be watching all the more closely.
Looks to me that they have lost even though they "won."

I'm just disappointed in the school board that they seemed to make up their mind about the issue before I even said anything at the meeting. It didn't escape my notice that they quoted everyone else in the media but me. (was it for my "own" good?) Sad that school board members elected by the public listen to outside groups rather than the parents that they are supposed to be serving.

Those "angry, selfish, and callous" women over at Dakota Women are calmer than you are.

Steve (or anyone else who knows the answer to this) - I just heard that the SF School Board has recalled all of the School Directories and is asking for teachers to hand their copies back in because of the ad. This came from a school teacher's wife that I am friends with. Does anyone know the details to this? Is this true?

I am not a parent, but I live in a neighborhood that has lots of kids, and an elementary school just two blocks away. I care about the kids and may not be aware of everything that goes on at the schools, but I was aware of this ad that has seemed to stir up so much controversy. Where's the humanity? Abortion does hurt women - emotionally, mentally and physically. Kids may not understand that, but parents can and should. A baby is a baby from the moment of conception.
NBC's Tom Brokaw asked Nancy Pelosi the same question that Rick Warren asked Barack Obama: "When does life begin?" Pelosi answered: "I would say, as an ardent practicing Catholic, uh this is an issue that I have studied for a long time, and what I know is over the centuries, the doctors of the church have not been able to make that definition. And…Saint Augustine said at three months. We don't know. The point is that it shouldn't have an impact on a woman's right to choose." I do not know who St. Augustine is, but Pelosi obviously doesn't know her Catechism. It states that "human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception." Bill Donohue of the Catholic League says he is offering Pelosi a copy of "Catechism for Dummies." Hmmm…Ms. Pelosi, being an ardent practicing Catholic, seems to have forgotten what she was taught in her catechism classes! I pray for her alot. Only God can remove the blinders, that are creating lies, decept and deception in the minds of people like Ms. Pelosi. God, soften their hearts, break their hearts for the unborn! Speak truth into their spirits! AMEN!
