Media far from fair and balanced as far as South Dakota unborn are concerned
Imagine what it would be like to try an advance a cause in this country with the full support of the local and national media behind you. The South Dakota Campaign for UNHealthy Families doesn't have to imagine because all they have to do a slip the media their talking points and their twisted message makes headlines locally and nationally.
Yesterday, Rapid City television KOTA carried a story on the Massive national campaign launch in DC today of the South Dakota Campaign for UNHealthy Families. The CBS affiliate used verbiage straight out of the anti-lifers glossary of loaded language. Pro-life South Dakotans were called "anti-choice forces." KOTA said this is a "similar ban" which is fully false - it is a major difference that this one has the rape and incest exceptions.
Also Yesterday, the hit piece on Leslee Unruh was strategically unveiled - actually the lengthy article had to be disappointing to those who hoped Unruh might have some hypocritical or despicable dark side. Obviously the reporter Amanda Robb was agenda-driven and understandably biased - my goodness her uncle was an abortion doctor who was killed by a pro-lifer. If there was ever someone to tear Unruh apart this was the person. Yet, what she really uncovered was a feminist hero who actually cares about women. Robb didn't find the story she was hoping for but admittedly was taken back by Unruh's kindness. As you read the article you can literally see Robb start to heal as she interacts with Unruh. This is something many South Dakota women hurt by those who kill have experienced through Unruh's ministry. Unruh even let Robb leave her with a Judas kiss on the cheek as she departed. No doubt though, the timing of the article was calculated to hurt the Vote Yes on 11 campaign in South Dakota and more so the Abstinence Movement nationally.
Today, the Wall Street Journal has a story on the battle for the unborn in South Dakota and its national implications. With the exception of a brief out of context comment from Dr. Patti Giebink, a five word sound bite from Leslee Unruh, and a statement from a Rapid City nurse who is now, with reservation, voting yes, the WSJ reporter quoted a strong line up of anti-lifers - Sarah Stoesz, president and chief executive of Planned Parenthood for Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota; Jan Nicolay, co-chairwoman of the South Dakota Campaign for UNHealthy Families; Marvin Buehner, a Rapid City obstetrician and gynecologist who is campaigning against the ban and 29-year-old UnHealthy Families volunteer Jonathan Drew (the fiance of UNHealthy Families Regional Field Director Leslie Stusiak). The WSJ took the stock "fears" being espoused in the anti-life talking points and didn't bother to print ANY counter point.
Good people have this hope (kind of like rock, paper, scizzors). Grassroots trumps money. Truth trumps falsehood. And, life trumps death. Even the media can't fight those forces.

After a heated email exchange, KOTA changed "anti-choice forces" to "anti-abortion groups". I posted a screen capture of the original page here. Please feel free to copy it and disseminate it!

I think sometimes of the scene in "The Last Unicorn", when the wizard wannabe tells the imprisoned unicorn that the witch who captured her "never should have tangled with a real harpy, or a real unicorn, because the truth melts her magic — alway."

Sorry but I've never met a person who advocated 'pro-choice' views who was 'anti-life' or 'pro-abortion'…that is just an extremely ignorant and narrow-minded view which is what I'd expect from you all. Anti-abortion folks are not really 'pro-life' at all, they are anti-abortion and anti-choice and don't want women to have control of their own reproductive systems and that's it. If you notice when the Repig Bush was signing the ban on 'partial birth' abortion (which is another example of false propanda) the only ones standing around him were a bunch of doddering old white men…not a SINGLE woman in sight! Bunch of effing mo-rons!!!
Funny how abortions always go UP during Repuglican administrations- as they have under Bush- because it turns out poor women who get pregnant realize economically they have no real chance of raising a child in any kind of comfort or providing even for their basic needs…total hypocrisy and irony seems to be beyond your comprehension it seems!
