Obama skips church, heads to gym

610x.jpgI borrowed the headline from Politico.com -  Obama skips church, heads to gym. There have been three Sunday's since his election. Other presidents in our history have made a beeline to the House of the Lord the very next Sabbath after their election perhaps because they had a sudden revelation of the enormity of what they have been called to and they needed God now more than ever.

Not Obama. This One, blows off church and goes to the gym to work on his abs - he's working on his "strength." I'll only speak here for myself… I don't want a leader who depends on his flesh. I know how that story ends and what it does to the people around and under him.

I can't think of a better way for a "president" to start off Thanksgiving Week than to acknowledge and give thanks to God. Obama is called to be an example to the nation in dire times.  Does he undertand the gravity of the problems he's promised to solve? With great sobriety of spirit, nation rulers, kings and presidents throughout history have hit this moment at the onset of their ascension to power and publicly prayed the prayer Solomon prayed as he took his father's throne.

Yet, instead of confessing his inadequacy and asking for wisdom, Obama is asking someone to spot him. You'll need it buddy. You can't lift what's being set in your lap. Obama ought to be on his face suckin' some serious rug (translation for those of you who don't frequent the places of prayer… that's a prayer posture… prostrate before the Lord - face in the carpet). Here's the deal Barry, if you don't want God's help, he'll back off and leave you to yourself. The problem is that means to hell with the rest of America.

Obama's aides says he's skipping church so he doesn't distract the worship of the others at the church….

Because they (the Obama's) have a great deal of respect for places of worship, they do not want to draw unwelcome or inappropriate attention to a church not used to the attention their attendance would draw," said the aide.

Whatever. Remember, I'm a pastor and I've heard every excuse in the book for skipping church. If it was a priority to him he'd bring in a pastor and send a memo to the staff that he's going to worship and they are invited to join him - if not, to leave him alone because this time is more important than a million cabinet meetings.

Maybe it's hard to worship when you are enjoying being the object of worship, I don't know.

As always I welcome your comments.  But here, in addition to your comments, drop some historical quotes from other presidents which reveal their utter dependence on God to fulfil this high calling.  Here's one from our 14th president, Franklin Pierce (1853) - "It must be felt that there is no national security but in the nation's humble, acknowledged dependence upon God and His overruling providence."

Pathetic. I'm hoping that Obama will be a better president than I expect. But stories like this don't give me much hope.

I am also worried about how he treats Israel. Israel is the apple of God's eye and anyone who mistreats them gets His judgement. Bill Koenig writes about how every time the U. S. pressures Israel to give up land, there is immediately a natural disaster in the U. S. that our country has to deal with. Koenig believes this is no coincidence, but rather a taste of God's judgment for not treating Israel properly, and a sign of His displeasure with our country. Presidents should read the Bible about the land of Israel.

Now I'm hearing that the people Obama is appointing are in favor of dividing Jerusalem and giving half of it to the Palestinians. The Bible says that in the last days Jerusalem will be a burdensome stone to all people and whoever messes with it will be crushed by it. (I don't think I have the quote exactly right, but it's words to that effect).

If Obama screws Israel and tells God to get lost, we are in for a rough four years. Batten down the hatches, it's coming. I just hope hope God notices that I'm a Sarah Palin fan who didn't vote for Obama, and spares me when He sends judgment to this country.
I also hope that He prospers me so that I can afford to give to the relief efforts that are sure to follow the disasters.

Sorry I don't know enough about the quotes of past presidents to be able to put any here. But I'll take you're word for it that they were properly dependent upon God. Anybody who would get into a job as big and intense as president would be a fool not to rely on God for help.

Sign petition to see Obama's birth certificate. It is the LEAST he can do to quell the controversy, and yet - he DOESN'T!

Here is a Quote from our very first American President.

"Do not let any one claim to be a true American if they ever attempt to remove religion from politics."

Travis @ 11:13 am

"We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We’ve staked the future of all our political institutions upon our capacity…to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God."

Doe it surprise you he skipped church? Does he not see him self as a Muslim? that is what he said on a recent tv show when asked how he handled difficult things, "my Muslim faith gets me through it', the reporter corrected him with 'you mean Christian Faith", …..what do we have for a president, all Christians betterr be on their knees a lot praying for our country and yes for Obama.

Angela @ 1:58 pm

Who really cares if Obama skipped church and went to the gym?
I don't see this as a big deal.

Yeah, better then me. I spend Sunday mornings drinking Gatorade, watching the morning Political shows (which I suggest everyone on this blog do once in awhile) and reading the paper. I think God would prefer me to be well-informed over brainwashed.

Ceecee,

One reason for optimism is Obama's choice for Chief of Staff: Rahm Emanuel, who is as aggresively liberal as any in Congress, but also is fiercely pro-Israel.

He grew up speaking Hebrew in an Orthodox family in Chicago, and had Israeli-American duel citizenship until his late teens. He even served as a civilian volunteer in the Israel Defense Force during the first Gulf War.

The guy is a total squish on abortion, but by most all indicaters, an unflinching supporter of Israel.
