SD abortion vote - and the loser is….
It's only 10:03 AM here in east river South Dakota so it's way too early to call the election with regard to the abortion vote here. However, I will make this call with great confidence… the losers of this election are a handful of "Pastors for IMMoral Choice" and their Planned Parenthood front organization the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice.
They continue to run their little ad in our state newspapers saying they are "committed Christian Ministers voting against Measure 11." The Planned Parenthood talking points follow. I love how they feel the need to tell us and themselves they are "committed." They know the rest of Christendom would say they are hardly committed. Here's the ad. Make sure you keep reading below. The irony of a just God is hidden in the ad.

This is the same ad these blind guides used here in 2006. They only changed a few words. I've told this story many times since… in 2006, at a staff meeting here at the church I noticed my wife disengaged from the discussion and instead was looking very closely at this ad. Later I asked why.
She discovered the fingers resting on the open Bible are pointing to Ecclesiastes 5:1 which “coincidentally” reads:
Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer a sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong. Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.
The open Bible graphic was obviously something they quickly grabbed from some church clip art resource. However, it's beyond coincidence to me that the mysterious hand (of God) speaking back at what these pastors are saying in their ad points to a verse that is an open rebuke to those who speak in the house of God as fools. The open Bible graphic is actually inserted upside down so it literally appears as if God's Word was responding back on their words.
The Bible is hardly silent on the issue of abortion - dozens of passages directly apply. There is no wiggle room in Scripture on this issue, the doctrine of bloodguilt permeates the Old and New Testaments, and there is no justification under heaven for the shedding of judicially innocent blood.
In case you are wondering, there is great confidence here that the unborn will be the real winners at the end of today. Stay tuned. My sense is LIFE will win out today in South Dakota 53-47.

Excellent Post
I am happy that people with spiritual eyes see the True Voice of God in the midst of all the darkness and deception.
Thank you and your family for sharing Salt and Light.

I am ashamed beyond measure that the Episcopal Church is signed on as a sponsor of the vile RCRC.
But know that Church of the Good Shepherd, Sioux Falls has a very visible Vote Yes for Life display at 33rd & Williams today. Some of us still drink the Blood of Christ instead of the Kool Aid of the denomination.

I was asking my friend, "What have we done as a nation to deserve Obama?"
I look at that ad and have my answer.
Marcee @ 11:59 pm
God's will has been done for this election. He has great plans. Don't despair, Christina. What have we done to deserve Obama? What haven't we done?? I don't know, but what I do know is that I have had such an unspeakable peace in my soul for several days. God is up to something real good! There may be some turbulent times ahead, but keep praying, keep pressing on and through this, and keep your eyes focused on Jesus. Peter took his eyes off Jesus, and when he saw the wind, he panicked while he was walking on the water towards Jesus. He sank. If we take our eyes off Jesus, we will see the turbulence and wind around us, then we will start to go under. Focusing on Jesus keeps us balanced, afloat, and at peace. Trust Him! Trust Him!
Blessings!

Yeah, Marcee. I have to keep reminding myself that this was not, as it seemed to me, a referendum on how we treat babies with Down syndrome, with "wrap them in a towel and stick them in a closet to die" winning in a landslide.
I think part of the plan when the Weather Underground and their cronies picked Obama was to pick somebody so appalling that just telling the truth about him would sound too horrible to possibly be true, so they could then accuse his opponent of unfair and inaccurate attacks. People just weren't willing to believe that this guy supported infanticide, that he supported a Black Liberation Theology preacher, that he paid people to register the dead to vote, that he disabled the anti-fraud measures on his web site to allow massive amounts of unreportable illegal donations.
Gotta listen to Kathy Tricoli singing "God is in Control".

With the failure of yet another abortion ban by about the same margin, it's clear to any objective person that the citizens of SD are tired of your shenanigans.
Is it too much to ask that you now work with those who voted against the ban to reduce the number of abortions through addressing the underlying causes?
Poverty, ignorance, and a sense of hopelessnes are what lead to abortion. The Jesus I know and love would be out taking care of the poor, the ignorant, and the hopeless.
I also ask that you join us in taking care of the babies born to poor women who choose life.
Life does not end at birth.
Complete Faith @ 12:08 pm
Some Dude, it would be a mistake for you to believe that we, at Church at the Gate, forget about children after they are born.
Some us are not blessed with the means to adopt children, but that does not mean we are any less supportive of those in need, no matter what their stage in life.
—–
I still believe abortion is wrong, and that it should be stopped, that has not and will not change.
As far as the underlying causes of poverty, ignorance, and a sense of hopelessness, I would agree that addressing these issues would reduce elective abortions to some extent. But economy, education and faith are 3 very different facets of life. I would ask how many battle fronts do you believe a person can fight on at the same time?
Some Dude @ 2:08 pm
One person can help on one front. If you have three people, three fronts.
How many people were involved in this campaign on both sides? How much money was thrown at the issue?
I don't have the actual numbers, but it's a safe bet that it would be enough to really make a dent in the abortion numbers through fighting poverty and teaching people about/ handing out contraception.
When a pregnant woman feels alone and hopeless, she's much more at risk of aborting her baby. If she has support and hope for the future, she'll be less reluctant to raise the child - or at least give birth.
Travis @ 2:14 pm
Some Dude-
What do you have in mind?
Complete Faith @ 3:37 pm
Step up brother, I will listen to what your ideas are too.
Some Dude @ 5:55 pm
Continue to teach fact-based, age appropriate sex-ed to kids in school, for one. The idea that simply telling them that sex should be saved for marriage and using guilt and shame to keep them from doing it is obsolete. Starting with 6th grade (as it is currently), good sex-ed needs to be a part of every health/biology class in SD. Included in the curriculum in 8th grade and beyond should be an introduction to all the available forms of BC and contraception. This would dispel some of the myths that get passed around (for example: that "cleaning up" after sex with diet coke can keep you from getting pregnant), and ensure that they all at least know about what's out there.
Hormones are more powerful than the awkward lectures of a thousand adults. Sex will happen, so we should at least have them use protection.
Should the efforts of our educators fail and a girl or woman become pregnant, other options are needed.
With our state gov't budget spread so thin, it would make sense for churches and other charities to pick up the slack and take care of unwed mothers with no means to help themselves. The outpooring of funding for both abortion measures would have been more than enough to keep a pregnant single woman on her feet until at least delivery, with discounted daycare or help finding adoptive parents thereafter. I know my own church has a wonderful nursery and so do others.
Ending abortion is a noble cause. But I believe it should be done not by outright banning it, but by promoting life with both words and deeds.
There's an old saying that you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar. I belive it's time for the pro-life movement to put that saying into action. Who knows how many people will be brought into the faith by your kind actions?
Jared @ 7:42 pm
All these ideas coming from a guy who is linked to South DaCola who leaves comments under Detriot Lewis that divide and then say we all will bring people to faith by our kind actions. I am disturbed by the backing and the responses for you some dude. This makes me scratch my head wondering if this reminds me of Obama's connections with his own Pastor or is it not his Pastor. I dont know! Not sure where you are going man!
four @ 10:34 pm
makes me wonder if some dude actually has a clue as to what crisis pregnancy centers do. I think if he checked one out, he would see it is part of what he describes above. Also, I wonder if some dude has actually done any of this himself, or does he just sit from his recliner coming up with all these "good" ideas. Has he ever donated to a "charity" that helps unwed mothers. I have.
I wonder if he is one who yelled about government intrusion. Well think about this, the opposition doesn't want government intrusion into the abortion issue, I don't want it involved in what my kids are being taught in school. Can't have it both ways.
So, I guess what I'm asking some dude is other than your ideas that you type on a blog, what have you actually done to help reduce abortion?
Complete Faith @ 10:32 am
Some Dude, again I will say I agree with you on the overall idea here, but with your outline I have some questions/thoughts.
First off you said “Continue to teach fact-based, age appropriate sex-ed to kids in school”
That’s a great idea, but what we have been doing so far isn’t working. So continuing down this road is not a wise plan. Perhaps parents need to step up and educate their kids, and the schools need to re-enforce those teachings.
You also stated “The idea that simply telling them that sex should be saved for marriage and using guilt and shame to keep them from doing it is obsolete”
Son, as a father of 4, I have to say that if you believe your kids are incapable if abstinence they will believe they are incapable too. It’s not outdated, it just not the easy road. Abstinence should be taught as an alternative.
Then you said “Starting with 6th grade (as it is currently), good sex-ed needs to be a part of every health/biology class in SD.”
What about those kids are sexually active before 6th grade? All of it’s getting younger and younger every year. Our kids are learning far more about sex and relationships from TV then we, or school will ever teach them. Watch the Disney channel for an hour some time. Almost every show on there has reference to boys and girls getting together in one-way or another. Parents need to stop using the TV as a baby sitter and get to know their kids.
“Included in the curriculum in 8th grade and beyond should be an introduction to all the available forms of BC and contraception. This would dispel some of the myths that get passed around (for example: that "cleaning up" after sex with diet coke can keep you from getting pregnant), and ensure that they all at least know about what's out there.”
Girls are starting to menstruate earlier and earlier all the time, due to all the hormones that are pumped into the food we eat every day in the name of making an extra buck.
What about STD? If kids are sexually active before the 6th grade we are talking 2 years of unprotected sex…
“Hormones are more powerful than the awkward lectures of a thousand adults. Sex will happen, so we should at least have them use protection.”
Maybe you shouldn’t lecture your kids about sex, talk to them, have an open an honest conversation with them. We, as adults are the ones who put the stigma on sex. They truly hunger to know what we desire for the, and then try to reach that goal.
”Should the efforts of our educators fail and a girl or woman become pregnant, other options are needed.”
In this case, baring other medical reasons, abortion should not be one of these options.
“With our state gov't budget spread so thin, it would make sense for churches and other charities to pick up the slack and take care of unwed mothers with no means to help themselves.”
Most Churches and Charities run on a far tighter budget then our gov’t. and their funding, most of the time comes from folks like you and I? Have you donated do a needy mother charity of any type? We, my family does.
“The outpooring of funding for both abortion measures would have been more than enough to keep a pregnant single woman on her feet until at least delivery, with discounted daycare or help finding adoptive parents thereafter.”
The outpouring of funding for starbucks in one day would go along way to help these folks as well. The fact is people are going to put money into the causes they believe in. I would love to have a portion of the cash spent on dog rescue every ear, or maybe a .5% of what good old T. Denny donates in a year. Man that would do wonders for saving the lives of the unborn.
“I know my own church has a wonderful nursery and so do others.”
My church does too…
As far as your vinegar and Honey reference – Should we have offered Hitler more honey, what about Sadam Hussan, or Osama Bin Ladin – Abortion is murder, and in the numbers that we are looking at it’s a holocaust.
It’s been said a 100 times, less then a lifetime ago black people were seen as less then human. No different then these babies. It took a lifetime of fighting but that was changed. Today we have a black man getting ready to be the leader of out nation. Thank God for that shift in thinking, but abortion is a far uglier atrocity, and will continue to be fought until we raise up a generation who believes in the sanctity of life.
The Atheist @ 3:51 pm
Hey, steve, one question: How many times did you and all of your Christian Fundamentalist friends pray for measure 11 to pass…..I guess it didnt do much good….oh yeah thats because praying does nothing and theres no such thing as God. I hope you guys come back in 2010 and pray your way onto another ballot just so I can have a good laugh.
