SD Medical Association sends cease and desist letter to UNHealthy Families

Call me perceptive. UNHealthy Families has removed the South Dakota State Medical Association logo from their website (replacing it with the ACOG logo) and they've been forced to yank yet another deceiving commercial from the South Dakota airwaves.  Here's why… like Sanford Health, the South Dakota State Medical Association sent a cease and desist letter late last week to the Campaign for UNHealthy Families. I'll link you to Dakota Women's site to see that the ad is indeed down - I thought the ladies there would appreciate me pointing out this ad has now come down twice - once to edit out any reference to Sanford Health - now, the SDSMA is protesting too. Not a good day for Mrs. Jan.

BTW - speaking of Mrs. Jan - during her segment last night on Eye on Keloland I was disappointed to hear her spewing ridiculously false fears about how under IM11 women's medical records would be reviewed by the government. Jan, have you heard of HIPPA??  IM11 doesn't change HIPPA. Jan, stop the lying, please.

Now.  Where was I?  O yes… this from the Vote Yes blog earlier this afternoon:

Sanford and the South Dakota Medical Association (SDSMA) have verified that they are NEUTRAL on this issue, and are encouraging people to vote according to their own morals.  These groups have been exploited by the pro-abortionists without permission. Both Sanford and the SDSMA have asked “Healthy Families” to cease and desist associating their names with their political agenda.

Sanford has since written a letter to Yes on 11, stating they now better understand the measure and they will make Vote Yes’ clarification available to their doctors. Measure 11 does have support from hundreds of South Dakota doctors, and many medical groups from across the nation. Visit VoteYesForLife.com website to see a list of groups representing more than 150 million supporters. Avera Hospital does support Measure 11, along with both Catholic Bishops in the state.

I guess that just leaves two South Dakota doctors Bell and Buehner who oppose IM11. Both major hospital systems and the state medical association refuse to be connected in any way to UNHealthy Families.

I saw that Inside Keloland segment too. Brandi Gruis had some doozies. For example, she said that VYFL has not taken any out-of-state money, which is false - their largest donation is from an Ohio organization. Sure, bring on the comparisons about who has raised more out of state money, but her lie is still a lie.

Additionally, she said that VYFL has been endorsed by the National Medical Association. Ummm, no they haven't.

Finally, she said that the abortion ban was not written with the intent to challenge Roe v. Wade. Unfortunately, Leslee Unruh, Allen Unruh, Harold Cassidy, Janet Folger, etc…..all disagree with her and have publicly affirmed the law's intent to challenge Roe.

Mark @ 6:42 pm

Much more to come about the deception in the medical community regarding IM 11.

Chris @ 6:54 pm

Better watch where they step when the chips are down…

Joe @ 6:58 pm

Please vote "Yes" for Life on 11.

Then vote Republican for President, Senate and House.

If Barack Obama takes power, it will be a dark day for this country and we will need every possible Republican seat in Congress to prevent the Democrats doing too much damage to this country, our economy and the safety and well being of unborn children.

If you want to protect unborn children from Obama, vote for Republicans for House and Senate.

Bret @ 7:43 pm

The blatant lies from Jan are unbelievable! I guess it's "do or say anything" to protect the practice of abortion as birth control.

I believe a majority of South Dakotan's are seeing through the deception and sneaky tactics the campaign for unhealthy families have been up to.

Doc @ 11:28 pm

Scott,

I think you need to look at what Brandi said. She does not state that there have been no out of state contributions. She was pointing out the unhealthy families has gotten the majority of their money from out of state and VYFL campaign contributions have mostly been from in state.

I would also like to know how long you have been working for unhealthy families. Your statements are the same old crap that unhealthy families puts out. You guys spend so much time trying to throw crap against the wall just to see what will stick that you do not know what the truth actually is.

Nikole @ 8:00 am

I find it very peculiar that not one person from DakotaWoman or SouthDacola or any other anti-life camp has said anything about the voter fraud. Speachless? It's difficult to argue against a tape recording and video.

Travis @ 9:14 am

Nikole -

The reason you don't see anything is because that is in direct conflict with their self painted portrait of how much higher and better the people are on the Pro-Choice side.

Just ask them and they will tell you that we are all murdering lunatics and everyone with an opinion different than ours needs a panic button. They will also tell you that their side is filled with peaceful loving people that just don’t want government intervention in their lives (that is while you are talking about abortion, change the subject to any other Liberal Policy and they are all for government intervention in our lives).

Go figure, they can’t see any inconsistencies in their arguments at all.

Angie @ 4:37 pm

Don't be so sure about this one! Click here for more info.

Steve @ 4:46 pm

Angie - give it a rest. UNHealthy Families got a cease and desist letter and had to be asked multiple times before they complied. One of the SDSMA docs will be posting here in the next day or so with the full story.

Bret @ 10:41 pm

I went to Angie's link. It appears that site is run by someone who is a 9th grader in junior high school due to the petty name calling and providing no link to the story they are commenting on. Why no link? Hmmm.

Complete Faith @ 7:11 am

Oh, Brett… Don't you know that if it's posted on Pink that makes it rock solid evidence for the ladies over at DakotaWomen.
Better watch out or they may start calling you DooBrett or something even more scary.

Mark @ 9:03 am

This is a direct quote from the SDSMA President, Dr. Cynthia Weaver to SDSMA members. It's quite clear. "SDSMA continues its position of neutrality on the issue of abortion and will not attempt to influence the personal views of its physician members regarding abortion procedures- … the SDSMA has formally insisted that the Campaign for Healthy Families withdraw its present advertising and conform it to the four corners of this Association's position statement."

It's amazing that UNhealthy Families continues to ignore the request from the SDSMA's legal counsel to cease and desist. I would encourage all of you to contact the SDSMA's CEO, Barb Smith or VP, Mark East and ask them why they haven't taken legal action on this issue yet since Unhealthy Families was still running the ads as of last night. While you're talking to Barb Smith or Mark East about this, ask them how it is that the SDSMA can oppose IM 11 out of one side of their mouth and out of the other side say that they're not endorsing abortion. I took Logic in college, and pardon me but, that position has no basis in logic.

The number you can reach Barb Smith or Mark East at is: 605-336-1965. Please call.

Angie @ 9:33 am

Thanks for proving my point, Mark. I specifically said they did not change their position on 11, even though both you and Steve have implied that their position is now one of total neturality. Weaver makes mention of their position statement, which I take to mean their previously existing one. The quote Mark posted also doesn't say "don't refer to us at all in your advertising," it says "conform [your advertising] to the four corners of this association's position statement."

There's really no room for middle ground for you here, is there? Either you're against 11, or you're "fully endorsing" abortion. Gee, and you wonder why people call you extremists.

Mark @ 10:14 am

Angie,
Don't listen to me. Call Barb Smith yourself (or are you too afraid of what she'll tell you and it will blow your whole argument) and ask her where the SDSMA stands on this, because obviously in your eyes I'm an"extremist" and therefore unbelievable.
Mark

Travis @ 11:15 am

Angie will never make that call. I guess ignorance is bliss.

Travis @ 11:33 am

Another quick thought.

If extremists are unbelievable, then everything that Angie or her friends at Dakota Women says should be discounted, right?

Extreme is Extreme no matter which side of the line you are on.

Angie @ 3:43 pm

I don't have to call. I'll just go with what everyone's saying in public.

Jared @ 4:49 pm

Why is it that the response I think I am going to get from "that girl" or "angie" is always the same. Why would you call? Because again you would be wrong and then you would have to ADMIT you're wrong. I am not sure how you can talk about middle ground when I have you're own blog is angry attacks and one-sided.

momoffour @ 9:07 pm

Angie,
I suppose the "everyone" you hang with are your own extremist Dakota unwomanly prototypes. Makes sense to me, you guys don't talk facts and truth, you only talk what you want to believe.

Doc @ 11:05 pm

Angie,

You know what I call extreme. It is someone like you that even when given facts refuse to accept the truth. I also have the information from the SDSMA just as Mark does.

I also get a kick out of people like you that call others extremists. You are the epitome of an extremist. You are only willing to talk face to face with people that agree with you. Then you call anyone else that does not agree with you names.

I would also have to consider someone extreme when they feel that the termination of someone else's life is OK because it is not convenient to them. Now that is extreme to me.

So before you start calling others names please take a look at your position. When you come to the understanding that the majority of American's do not like the idea of abortion on demand. When you come to the understanding that people like you have destroyed the lives of over 50 million Americans. When you understand thatyou and others lie you have killed about 15% of America. When you understand the taking of innocent life is not OK. When you understand that women are hurt by abortion. When you have children of your own. When you are old enough and have one of your grandchildren aborted. Then and only then will you understand that you are the extreme one.
