The glaring inconsistencies of South Dakota anti-life leader Jan Nicolay

images.jpeg

I'm filing this one under both humor and hypocrisy. You'll see it's direct connection to the abortion issue in South Dakota in a minute.

The Argus Leader runs a story this morning on a growing point of contention in South Dakota between some rural landowners and South Dakota's Game, Fish and Parks. The contention is over whether or not game wardens should be able to enter onto private land without permission under what's called the Open Fields doctrine. Opponents say the Open Fields doctrine diminishes private property rights and that game wardens need to ask permission first.

Guess who the Argus Leader quotes on the side of those who WANT more "government intrusion"… Jan Nicolay, the co-chairwoman of the South Dakota Campaign for UNHealthy Families. Only the Argus forgot to mention that part - that she is spear-heading a statewide campaign to "keep government out" of our private lives - the Argus only mentions that she is a former legislator from Chester, SD who likes to hunt, fish and camp. Interesting that Ms. Jan is for the Open Fields doctrine welcoming government intrusion on private land in South Dakota. As she is quoted in the Argus Leader…

Game wardens are simply trying to ensure that people follow the laws… People intentionally trying to break the law… need to be caught.

So Ms. Jan is trying to tell the entire state right now to keep the government out of private lives of women but not the private lives of landowners. She trumpets the right to privacy, she trumpets the merits of less government intrusion. Yet, which is it Jan? I'm confused, or maybe you are.

The bottom line is that Ms. Jan and all her friends in the unholy alliance with Planned Parenthood desperately need government involvement. Planned Parenthood receives $335 MILLION dollars A YEAR in taxpayer funding. They don't want "families to decide" or they wouldn't relentlessly fight reasonable people who think it's wrong that a 15 year girl would be able to get an abortion without her parents being notified. So, when you hear Ms. Jan say all over the state this fall that we don't need more government intrusion, know that she speaks as one with no integrity on the matter.

Disingenuous. Again.

Right, because the government trying to control what a woman can do with her own body is the same as a game warden briefly stopping on a property to ensure that poaching and illegal hunting practices aren't occurring.

You're absolutely right. The implications of both laws are tremendous. If abortion is outlawed and women have to resort to dangerous and illegal abortions, it's like farmers being able to preserve the privacy and sanctity of their fields.

No, you're 100% correct here.

Steve @ 1:36 pm

Women "resorting to dangerous and illegal abortions" - is a false fear - I've pointed out elsewhere that the numbers (5000-10,000) of back alley abortion deaths we were told in 1973 were numbers NARAL made up - according to their co-founder. Actual numbers in 1972 - was 120. Medical people have told me that number would be far less today considering medical advancements today. The SD Task Force on Abortion heard testimony from over 2000 women who said if it wasn't legal it they wouldn't have done it. Thus, the governments grand intrusion here will save innocent human life and spare many women documented wounding.

Yep, I am correct. Thanks for acknowledging that fact. Ms. Jan is inconsistent. And, come on, there are two bodies involved in every pregnancy, not just the woman's. And, as Thomas Jefferson said "The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only legitimate object of good government." You are helping me make my point. Ms. Jan is okay with government involvement on far lesser matters of importance but shifts her view when it comes to matters of ultimate importance.

I totally reject the comments of William @ 1:04pm. I'm also rather ticked off that his comments might be confused as mine…
