UNHealthy Families student group forms at Lincoln High School today
At the start of school today at Sioux Falls Lincoln High School students report an announcement was made throughout the entire school that a new student-led group is forming under the supervision of faculty advisor and they will be having a meeting today after school in room E-219 to recruit student volunteers to the Campaign for UNHealthy Famlies. The school confirms this is true.
Schools allow students to form groups of all sorts. I wonder where there line is though. The Campaign For UNHealthy Families is fighting to ensure it remains legal to continue killing of an entire kindergarden class every two weeks in South Dakota.
Don't you just love the hypocrisy of the Campaign For UNHealthy Families, just yesterday they were outraged over an Alpha Center ad in this years school district directory - that the Alpha Center would insert "politics" into the school system was appalling to them.

Steve: This is why we need Bound4LIFE in every middle, JR and SR High School in the state: http://www.bound4life.com. This is why life-affirming young people in SD need to join over 600 other schools nationwide and get together with their friends to fast lunch on Fridays and pray for the ending of abortion (Bound4LIFE's ThinkFast). This is why young people from all over Sioux Falls should be standing with Bound4LIFE as we put on our LIFE tape and pray outside Planned Parenthood every Monday morning at 7:00 a.m. and soon on Fridays from 11:00 to 12:00 for the ending of abortion. We need you, teenagers - you are the survivors of abortion. Come stand with us.

According to one of the articles the Argus has on their website about the ad in the directory, "The same policy requiring that materials be approved also states that “political materials” may not be distributed on school grounds".
My question is this: how do you have a meeting for volunteers of a political campaign, but not distribute "political materials"? Isn't just the verbal back-and-forth that will take place "political material"? Looks to me like the Sioux Falls Public Schools are violating their own policies once again.

Wow. The Campaign for UNhealthy Families goes into a frenzy over an obscure ad. Imagine what they would do if VoteYesForLife.com had a meeting in the local high schools.

The hypocrisy of the pro-abortion crowd never ceases to amaze me.

Folks, somebody with kids in Lincoln HS needs to make an inquiry about the "legality" of UNhealthy Families having a group there - and it needs to be done TODAY. Parents with kids at the other HS and JR/Middle schools should also make a BIG STINK right now - if it can be ascertained that it is against the rules to have these groups then get them out NOW - don't let them get a foothold.
On another note, did anybody else pick up that the Argus did not identify Nicolay as a leader in Unhealthy Families, but rather as "Jan Nicolay, a former school principal in Sioux Falls and now a member of the South Dakota Board of Education," (which fact in itself is SO stinkin scary). And that she "said administrators should be monitoring what schools distribute." Yeah, like political materials to our kids promoting the killing of their contemporaries.
Disingenuous Jan, AGAIN (Joined this time by the Argus Leader). Geez.

I second Amy on this, someone with legal standing needs to get an injunction against this group ASAP. This issue MAY not be settled before the election SO; let's beat them at their own game and form our own.
At this point in the political season, it's probably unlikely that a challenge to this group will be heard, or at least ruled on, before the election takes place.
I suggest prolife groups issue both a legal challenge to using school sponsored student groups to form and participate in ballot issue campaigns while at the same time forming our own to challenge and compete with them in this election season.
While I hope that student groups can't be used in this fashion in FUTURE ballot issues, we can't let this challenge go unanswerd during this one.

They have just as much right to be there as the pro-life groups that will undoubtably pop up. Free speech is a beautiful thing, right?
The hypocracy os the pro-life crowd never ceases to amaze me.
I'd love to see where you guys get those numbers about abortions performed in SD. Maybe a link to an objective site with the stats?

Things that aren't rocket science:
1. The Campaign for Healthy Families is a ballot question committee.
2. Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization. It's a service provider. It's a completely seperate organization.
They're not the same thing. On your side, it's the difference between the Alpha Center and VoteYesForLife.com–which Kimberly Martinez was so careful to point out yesterday are seperate organizations.
Did you see a press release from the Campaign for Healthy Families about their "outrage" at the Alpha Center ad? Did you see anything on their website? If you did, please share…but I think you'll be looking for a while.
I would expect someone who has CLEARLY thought through issues like this one from all angles to at least be able to comprehend the difference. But, perhaps that's expecting too much.

Anonymous 11:39AM - Alpha Center, unlike Planned Parenthood didn't drop $100,000 into the coffers of VoteYes as Planned PArenthood did earlier this spring into the bank account of UNHealthy Families. Unlike Alpha Center, which is staying out of the Vote Yes campaign, Planned Parenthood is very active in the Campaign for UNHEalthy Families as is evident on their STANDUPSD blog. I did see press releases on the StandUPBlog of this outrage.
"Service Provider" - that's a sad discription for sure. I know technically the donations are flowing through Planned Parenthoods Action fund but hello, it's the same group.
