Walter Panzirer, I owe you an apology

Three times on this blog, and now four, I have had to retract posts that were found to be untrue, unfair and/or unkind.

In November, in the heat of the efforts to stop those wanting to experiment on human embyros in South Dakota, I posted information shared with me about the Leona Helmsley Foundation giving an additional $200,000 to fund Parkinson's Research in South Dakota through the Michael J. Fox Foundation. In that post I made the connection that Walter Panzirer, the grandson of Leona Helmsley, lives right here in Sioux Falls.  I wasn't in any way kind toward his grandmother and made false assumptions about the Helmsley Foundation being financially connected to the efforts here to lift the ban on emryonic stem cell research.

Tonight I met with Walter and his wife and ate some major humble pie as they confronted me with the fact that my information was wrong. I got the full scoop on the good work of Walter's foundation… opening rural pharmacies and remote emergency care services in partnership with Avera-McKennen (South Dakota has been given 19 million from Walter's foundation). Walter assured me that he's very much pro-life and that he IS NOT in anyway funding those wanting to experiment on embryonic stem cells.

So, I have deleted the slanderous post, repented to them personally and now publicly state my retraction and apologies to Walter, his wife and children.

This blog started as a place to give voice to those who have no voice - the unborn. Many times in our fight for life I've said what others wouldn't say and named names and sought to shed light on the darkness that is abortion. I understand my integrity is quickly compromised if I take cheap shots, perpetuate falsehoods and malign others unfairly. When I've crossed those lines, I have posted my deep regrets.

wow Pastor Steve… thank you for admitting your mistake and publicly making it right; and for apologizing to the family. I read your blog because it is real… and you are passionate about what you believe, and you are human and don't put yourself above others. some of us are called to speak… even when not a popular position. and on occasion we don't get it exactly right and have to make amends. the key is: don't let this get you down. discouragement is straight from the enemy. and don't ever give up: Gal 6:9.
… in it for LIFE! dr. patti
